At Sea Needles we specialize in knitting, crocheting, counted cross stitch, and needlepoint. Sea Needles has crewel and candlewicking and embroidery kits. We offer a large array of quality yarns for knitting and crocheting. Stop by! We have many patterns and supplies to help you with your project.

Come feast your eyes on our yarn selection at Sea Needles. We have it types of yarn from all from natural fibers to manmade blends, baby yarn to ultra chunky yarns. We also carry a large selection of colors for afghans. Scarves are very trendy now and we have fun yarns that can be knitted or crocheted into a scarf, poncho, capes or shawl. What a great gift idea! We offer a large array of sock yarn for the whole family.

We carry handpainted needlepoint canvases, preworked canvases (where the design is complete) and needlepoint kits. A great gift idea is a needlepoint cell phone or eyeglass case. Traditional Christmas stockings in needlepoint can also be found here at Sea Needles. We also offer needlework finishing service for stitched items.

Our cross stitch selection is tremendous. One can choose from kits, especially our exclusive Sea Needles Kits, or thousands of books to create your own project. Of course, we carry fabric, floss and perle cotton for every project.

To complete your treasured project or artwork of any kind, Sea Needles has an award winning framing department. We can advise you on the best frame to preserve your treasured needlework or art. Shadowbox framing of dimensional objects and memorabilia is also available. We carry a selection of ready made frames. Traveling Woman- 2 classes Thu 9/16, 9/30 10-12:30 $80 Intermediate-The Traveling Woman pattern is a good first lace shawl because the pattern repeats over and over again and the size choices makes it possible to use one or two skeins of hand dyed yarns, but it is lovely in standard yarns with excellent drape. Two classes three hours each with three weeks between classes. Need approx 400 yds fingering wt. yarn for pattern as written. Materials and homework information provided upon registration.  JACKIE
Reading Knitting Patterns Thu 9/16 1:30-3:30 $45 Beginner - Learn how to read a pattern by examining each section given by designer.  Study knitting abbreviations, yarn weight standards types of knitting needles and numbering systems, etc. and uses.  Examine information provided by yarn manufacturers on each ball,skein or hand of yarn.  Discussions about differences between US and other countries knitting terminology.  Tuition does not include materials. No knitting required during class.
Yarns,Gauges, Substitutions Wed 9/23 10:30-12:30 $45 Beginner  with some basic knitting experience -Examine different types of yarn and see how weight and stitches per inch are not the only requirements for obtaining the desired result. Discussion on substituting one yarn for another. Tuition does not include materials. No knitting required during class. JACKIE
Cable Class 2 classes Thu 9/23 1:30-3:30  Thu 9/30 1:30-3:30 $80 Advanced Beginner -Cables are the "in" fashion right now and you can learn or practice cables making this simple Cabled Circular Needle Cozy. If you can knit and purl, then you are ready to cable. Cables look quite intimidating but are really not difficult once you learn the basic techniques. This class reveals the techniques behind those fascinating twisting stitch patterns that are seemingly knitted out of order. Materials and homework information provided upon registration. JACKIE

Entrelac Mon 9/27 2:00-4:00 $45 Entrelac is beautiful and easy to do.  We will learn the basic technique as we knit a swatch that can be the jumping off place for anything: a scarf, bag, sweater or cape.  Need smooth, light-colored worsted wt. yarn and Size 7 needles.  Preq: Knit, Purl, cast-on MARY
Heel Review Wed 9/29 10:30-1:30 $60 Jump back into making socks with this review of knitting the heel flap, turning the heel, picking up for the gusset and decreases for the foot.  Preq: Knit, purl, cast-on knit in round on dpn. HOMEWORK: Using smooth light colored yarn cast on 48 sts on size 5 dpn join in the round and knit, 2" of K2,P2 ribbing.  Leave on needles MARY
Finishing Wed 9/29 2:30-5:00 $50 Advanced Beginner -The class includes a variety of seaming or sewing techniques for finishing off your project. Making your Knits Fit Thu 9/30 10:30-12:30 $45 Advanced Beginner: Are you ready for your first sweater or other fitted garment? How do I know what size will fit me? Knitted Spiral Hat Thu 10/14 1:30-3:30 $45 Advanced Beginner - Would you like to complete a project and at the same time learn new techniques?  JACKIE
Instruction is included for provisional cast-on (using a crochet hook), Kitchener stitch and a variety of decrease and increase methods. These techniques are taught in the process of knitting a spiral hat designed by Plymouth Yarn and available in pattern number P301. This is a single skein project from fiber that is worsted weight with some elasticity.

Citron Shawl -  2 classes  Thu 10/21  10:30-12:30 Thu 11/11 10:30-12:30 $80 Advanced Beginner/Intermediate - This two part class based on the Knitty Citron shawl is intended for those who would like to create a shawl with unique surface features and use lace or fingering weight yarn but which does not require the attention needed with lace patterns. Discussions will be given on how to enlarge the pattern in the first class. The second class will discuss how to bind-off to preserve the ruffled edging and blocking the shawl.  Materials and homework information provided upon registration.Materials and homework information provided upon registration. Mitered Knitting Thu 10/28 10:00-12:30 $45 Intermediate or Advanced Beginner- An introduction to develop proficiency in creating individual geometric shapes (squares and triangles) and attach them together to create a variety of useful household and wearable items and even fiber art. The basic garter square will be our starting point and three expanded versions will follow to demonstrate how mixing stitches and colors creates an entirely unique look. First Cardigan- 4  2 hr classes Mon 11/1, 11/8, 11/22, 11/29 10:30-12:30 $125 Are you ready to step up to knitting garments? Make a child-sized cardigan learning to understanding the pattern, choosing yarn, swatching gauge, increases, decreases, picking up stitches, assembling and more. Cables Mon 11/1 1:30-3:30 $45 Everyone loves cables.  They aren't as hard as you think.  This technique will give you the skill to make a bag, scarf, sweater, you decide.  Preq: K, P, cast on. Need smooth, light worsted yarn size7 Needles or chunky yarn and size 9 needles and cable needle. MARY
Heart Sachet Thu 11/4 10:30-12:30 $45 Intermediate or advanced beginner-Get a head start on gifts for the holidays or any other time of the year by making this delightful mitred square sachet shaped like a heart. Materials and homework information provided upon registration. JACKIE

Reading Patterns Mon 11/8 1:30-3:30 $45 Learn the language of knitting.  HOMEWORK Using smooth light colored worst weigt yarn cast on 30 sts on size 7 needles K2,P2 for 1" the St St for 3" leave on needles and bring to class.  Bring ruler also. MARY
Buttonholes Wed 11/10 1:30-3:30 $45 A beautiful button can make a simple sweater shine.We will make horizontal, vertical and other closure options.  HOMEWORK: use light colored worsted yarn, cast on 12 sts on size 7 needles ans K2,P2 for 2".  Leave knitting on needles and bring to class. MARY

Intro to Lace Knitting Thu 11/18 10:30-12:30 $45 Intermediate - For many the confusing terminology that begins with the description makes the prospect of knitting an entire item in lace a daunting prospect.You will enjoy learning a variety of techniques for increases and decreases that fall into the categories of yarn overs and knit two together until they become second nature. Specific instruction will be given on how to read lace patterns.  The intent of this class is to provide practical guidelines for creating lace knitting in a variety of yarns. Lace Scarf Thu 12/2 10:30-12:30 $45 Intermediate/Advanced -Concentration is on reading charts with specific attention to their relationship to lace knitting techniques and terminology. This class is intended for those confident in a variety of yarn over and decrease techniques. The class provides hand-on techniques for implementing lace knitting as an “insertion” in a specific project and uses a pattern called Spring Time on Delmarva (will be available from Sea Needles).  JACKIE

Each class has a min and max.  Class must be paid-in full at sign-up. Sea Needles will refund in full if class is cancelled.
